Apple Crisp

Ingredients:

6-8 apples, depending on size (use a combination of sweet and tart baking apples, e.g. tripoleos and granny smith)

1/4 + 1/4 cup sugar (or brown sugar or combination)

1/4 tsp. ground cloves

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

2-4 Tbsp. lemon juice

zest from 1 lemon (optional)

1/4 + 1/2 cup flour

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/8 tsp. salt

1 stick (110 gr) butter, melted

3/4 cup ground walnuts

1/4 cup fresh or frozen cranberries (optional)

Preparation:

Pare apples and cut into slices. Add cranberries (optional), 1/4 cup sugar, spices, lemon juice & zest and 1/4c flour. Mix and put into buttered pyrex (8x8 inch square). Prepare the topping by combining the remaining sugar (1/4 cup), flour (1/2 cup), oats, salt, butter and nuts. Mixture will be crumbly. Sprinkle over apple mixture.

Bake at 350F/180C, until top is golden brown and juices are bubbling, about 45 mins. Serve plain or with vanilla ice-cream.
