Diamonds and Rust - A blog experimentDr. Ioannis A. Daglis is the Director of the Institute for Space Applications and Remote Sensing at the National Observatory of Athens (ISARS/NOA). His scientific expertise pertains to solar system astrophysics and space applications. Dr. Daglis is a member of the Space Research & Technology Group of ISARS.
Dr. Daglis graduated from the Physics Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He worked on his PhD in Space Plasma Electrodynamics at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (Germany) and the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (USA) and received a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the Democritus University of Thrace in 1991. He has published 76 refereed papers with more than 1500 citations and has given 29 invited talks and 160 contributed papers at 89 conferences. He has edited and co-authored 4 textbooks, one of which (Space storms and space weather hazards, 2001) is "recommended teaching material" for Space Sciences by the UN's Office for Outer Space.
Dr. Daglis has served as evaluation expert for the US National Science Foundation (NSF), NASA, Academy of Finland, INTAS, FONDECYT Chile, Greek General Secretariat for Research and Technology, Research Promotion Foundation of Cyprus, New Eurasia Foundation Russia, Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and the European Commission.
Dr. Daglis is a Full Member of the International Academy of Astronautics; Editor for Magnetosphere and Space Plasma Physics in Annales Geophysicae, the main European journal in the field of Space Sciences; and Board Member of the Greek Research & Technology Network S.A. In the past he served as a Member of ESA's advisory Solar System Working Group (2005-2010), as the National Delegate of Greece at the Programme Committee of thematic priority "Space" of the 7th RTD Framework Programme of the European Commission (2006-2009); and as Head of the Greek Delegation to the joint EC/ESA High-Level European Space Policy Group (2004-2008).
